Zones of Regulation
As part of the Health and PE Curriculum, our school will be participating in The Zones of Regulation® programme (or “The Zones” for short) to help them gain skills in the area of self-regulation and emotional control. This programme is being supported by our Resource Teachers of Learning and Behaviour (RTLB's).
The lessons and learning activities are designed to help the students recognise when they are in the different zones and learn how to use strategies to move between zones.
Through this programme, the students will gain:
● an increased vocabulary of emotional terms,
● skills in reading other people’s facial expressions,
● perspective about how others see and react to their behaviour,
● insight into events that trigger their behaviour,
● calming and alerting strategies, and problem solving skills.
ZONES strategies can be used at home and school. It is important to note that everyone experiences all of the zones—the Red and Yellow Zones are not the “bad” or “naughty” zones. The Green Zone is considered optimal for learning and working well with others.
If you would like to find out more about the Zones of Regulation, please see your child’s teacher. We look forward to sharing this new learning with you throughout the term.
