Road Patrol Orange Day
At the end of the school year the road patrol volunteers have a day of celebration, a march, a sausage sizzle and a swim at Baywave.
Orange Day- Road Patrol Our road patrollers march with other schools down the mainstreet of Mt Maunganui, each with a banner highlighting what the road patrollers do. There is a competition for the banner which must reflect a road safety message to their own community.
Our message is YOLO do not cross SOLO. This is because when we are on road patrol duty we see a lot of people, children and adults, not using the crossing. Quite often they also run across the road which adds to the danger. Some children run across in response to an adult calling and signalling them. Both ends of our line of vision when on road patrol are the crests of hills. There is a lot of "solo' crossing at those ends which is again very dangerous. Some cars still travel very fast at the approach to those rises.
Elia Vukona, Hollie Ormsby, Harper Patterson and Lilah O'Neill are the creative thinkers and artists for the Te Puna School banner this year. A very stunning and carefully executed piece of work. Thank you to them for their effort to make the banner one which we are very proud to carry.
