Christmas…Books… Books…Books
I am always in denial when that word Christmas starts looming up…but others are more organised than me and are already thinking gifts….so here are a couple of book ideas.
The following are books for gifts or titles that will be at your library for summertime lending.
1.Sylvia and the Birds - NZ Book - $40.00 - will be available at most book stores. Suitable 10+. Inspiring young readers to help and protect birds.
This book is a taonga - it is a keeper. It is about the life of ‘The Bird Lady’, Sylvia Durrant, who helped over 140,000 sick, injured and lost birds during her lifetime. Part graphic biography, part practical guide to protecting our bird wildlife, Sylvia and the Birds: How the bird lady saved thousands of birds, and how you can too! is a new hardcover release.
Written by Johanna Emeney and richly illustrated by Sarah Laing. The book tells the story in a variety of text and picture styles e.g graphic novel, classic text, scrapbooking etc. It has good practical achievable ideas on how we can help protect our native birds, with an engrossing text, mātauranga Māori insights, activities and how-tos. It offers hours of enchantment and engagement and makes a great Christmas present for the whole family to explore.

A great read for anyone who loves hunting deer, or wild pig, or fishing with rod or bow.
The book is easy to dip in and out of, easy for adults/chn to choose one story at a time to read etc. A great book to share and for the outdoors child who is not so keen on reading!!!
