Aongatete Camp

Kylie Chambers —

The year 5/6 camp was such a success - the children all tried something new - new friendships were formed, new experiences were had, independence grew, and challenges were met and conquered.

This camp will be an experience that they won't forget - they went to camp during a storm, got saturated but had an excellent time. The rain didn't dampen any spirits. The children coped brilliantly with the cold and the fact that they were in wet clothes and shoes.

I was very impressed with the willingness of children to do the dishes, sweep the floor, wipe the tables etc on camp - for some of them it was a highlight. Plus the dorms were the tidiest I have ever seen school dorms - everything had its place - I couldn't believe how organised they were.

The children:

  • made pancakes on mini stoves
  • searched for glowworms
  • shot arrows at targets such as balloons and apples
  • climbed rockwalls
  • used compasses to find their way out of the bush
  • learnt about pests in the bush
  • ate so much food
  • conquered team challenges
  • mastered the ropes challenge
  • laughed and smiled

Thank you to the team of instructors at Aongatete Lodge who organised a brilliant timetable for us and kept us safe whilst doing all the activities.

Thank you also to all the parents who provided wonderful food for us. The pasta bakes, baking and desserts were excellent to have after a day in the rain.

Thank you to all the parents who came to camp with us, your support was so vital in making this camp such a success.
