Y5-6 to start Garden to Table in Term3

Alexia Skipper-Jones —

Our Y3-4 gardening groups got stuck in last week, preparing the foundations for our fruit trees and berry bushes.

Y5-6 will start the program next term in Week 2. Y3-4 finish up tomorrow by making Cauliflour Mac and Cheese, they have thoroughly enjoyed their garden and kitchen sessions, and it has been great to see their enthusiasm to absorb new skills.

A huge thank you to all of our volunteers this term who have supported Shelley in the kitchen and Sarah in the garden.

We now need volunteers from Y5-6 whānau, to assist small groups of tamariki under teacher supervision, once a week, in the garden or in the kitchen.

There are 2 sessions every Tuesday, 9.30am-11am, and 11.30am-1pm, for 9 weeks. If you can help on any Tuesday that would be appreciated.

The class is split in 2, one in the garden, and one in the kitchen for the first hour, then we all join together to enjoy the kai that has been prepared.

Garden to table will not run to its potential without enough volunteers. Please ask your wider whānau and friends if you are unable to help.

And if you are able to donate any fruit trees or berry bushes for our edible garden we would be very grateful.

Dates for Term 3, letters are coming home to Y5-6 whānau this week, or contact Alexia sports@tepuna.school.nz if you can support in any way.
