Te Puna Taniwha Triumphant

Alexia Skipper-Jones —

Congratulations to our Y5-6 Basketball team for winning their division at Trustpower Stadium on Friday night.

What a team, what a season, they had to deal with Covid unsettling the spectator support, as well as rugby injuries to Louie and Mannix, leaving them with 5-6 players on occasion.  It was great to be able to include Olivia and Kiarn at the end of the season to boost numbers and morale. Thank you girls and all whānau. Honourable mention to Neitana and Louie for their awesome contribution to the team over the season.

In an exciting final they beat Te Puke Primary School 16-10.

I would also like to express a massive thank you to Coach David and Manager Andrea for supporting and transporting the team in what has been a very unsettling season.

Due to Covid, and the no spectator rule, it is a long way for whānau to drive to sit in the carpark, therefore on a number of occasions team management took the team home, fed them and got them game ready. Thank you for your dedication to the team.
