Basic Facts Knowledge
Basic facts knowledge is the ability to have fast and fluent recall of key:
•addition/subtraction facts
•multiplication/division facts
•proportional relationships - fractions
Last term we noticed in Year 4 - 8 that there are some areas that would be valuable to be practiced at home.
One area we discovered that needs to be developed is the knowledge of:
Pairs to 10 e.g. 7 + ? = 10, 2 + ? = 10
Pairs to 100 e.g. 30 + ? = 100. 60 + ? = 100
Pairs to 1000 e.g. 400 + ? = 1000. 1000 - 300 = ?
THEN
Pairs to 100. e.g. 37 + ? = 100. 84 + ? = 100
Pairs to 1000 e.g. 346 + ? = 1000. 1000 - 524 = ?
Pairs to 10 e.g. 2.7 + ? = 10. 9.4 + ? = 10
Where children are on this progression of basic fact knowledge is different according to their curriculum level but this gives you an indication of the progression of the knowledge they need between Yr 4 - 8.
Here is a great website to practice these facts.
