Introducing Mr James Kerr

Neil Towersey —

Mr Kerr will be starting with us a little later this term and will be in the Year 7/8 class. Here is a brief bio and parents and students will have a chance to meet with Mr Kerr in the next couple of weeks. (Some of our families that follow rugby closely may just recognise Mr Kerr who has some 'Crusaders' fame!)

Kia ora Te Puna whanau. My name is James Kerr and I am really excited to be joining the teaching team and becoming a part of the school community.

I grew up in Gisborne and am living in beautiful Tauranga with my family made up of my wife Heather, and two boys 6 year Lachlan and 4 year old Charlie. We have a vibrant and busy household where chaos reigns!

I have been teaching for 10 years with the majority being in Year 7/8. Some of my highlights have been taking students on a South Island Camp, snowboarding at Ruapehu, whitewater rafting and ziplining over the years. I believe it is important for students to experience activities that build teamwork and a sense of achievement. Prior to teaching I was a professional rugby player in New Zealand and abroad.

I really enjoy forming positive relationships with students and co constructing programmes that enhance their learning, leadership, physical, and emotional capabilities.

When I am not in work mode I enjoy getting outdoors with my family and drinking a good coffee. I love playing tennis and backyard cricket, as well as travelling and watching a movie.
