Manu Tukutuku

Logan Wright —

Matariki Kites have a special significance in Māori culture and are flown during Matariki to signify the start of the Māori New Year. The kites are called manu tukutuku or manu auto. Manu is the Māori word for bird.

In Room 11 we have been using Google drawing to design a kite with a representation of one or more of the stars of Matariki. We did plan on building and testing the kites on Friday but decided to wait for a day where we have more help from Tāwhirimātea.
