Y5-6 WBOP Orienteering Event

BOP Orienteering put on a fabulous rogaine course at Waipuna Park last Wednesday.

We took 22 competitors who chose to compete as a pair or individual. Our individuals did extremely well, with 4 podium places.

Y6 -Maddie Walker placed 1st and Paige Slako 3rd.

Y5-Ruby Harrison placed 1st and Lucy Pomfrett 2nd.

Congratulations to all of our students who thoroughly enjoyed the event, and thank you to our parents, Brendan, Karen, Tawhai, Michelle, Kirsty and Penny for supporting the day.

And to Kylie Chambers for preparing them so well.

The event was a 45-minute Rogaine format. Individuals or teams must visit as many controls as they can, in any order within 45 minutes, with the controls worth 10 points each. 

Penalties accrue if you do not finish within the 45 minutes, with 20 points lost per minute or part minute over the 45 minutes. 

Scoring is done electronically with the SI cards, placing the SI “dibber” in the control station until it beeps or flashes to record a visit. 

At the finish, the finish control must be punched, then the SI cards are downloaded and handed in.
