AIMS GAMES 2024

Alexia Skipper-Jones —

The AIMS Games gives Intermediate aged students an opportunity to compete as an individual or a team against their age in NZ, and invited countries in 27 codes.

What an amazing week with awesome tamariki, who all played with positive attitudes, top sportsmanship, surrounded by lots of whānau and friends cheering them on.

It is a week our tamariki will remember forever, one of hard competitive sport and good fun with their mates, and with their new AIMS mates.

Over 13,000 competitors descended on Tauranga for the week of sport. We took a group of Y8's to the Opening Ceremony at Mercury Stadium on the Sunday, to see a mix of live performances, legendary sports individuals and much much more., was a super way to start the tournament.

The boys futsal, and girls hockey teams came up against some top players in the early stages, but as the week went on they certainly had their chances to win some more evenly matched games, but it took until the last hockey game to secure a win.

Never the less, our tamariki kept their heads held high and chased the game to the final whistle showing grit and determination until the end.

Elvis did exceptionally well to qualify to the Rock Climbing quarterfinals, but needed to climb well in all his disciplines to make the top 15. Unfortunately he lost grip on one wall which put him out of contention. He was grateful for the support of his mates, both the futsal and hockey kids came to cheer him on.

Harper and Fletcher competed in the enduro mountain biking event, and had heaps of fun.

Our table tennis team finished 8th in the mixed pairs, well done to Luke, Trish, Cai and Joanie on an excellent week, and result.

And our badminton team had lots of matches, with a mixed bag of results, against some tough competition.

Congratulations to Paige, Cai, and Tama for receiving the AIMS sportsmanship medals from their respective managers.

A massive thank you to our supporters who sponsored the AIMS GAMES Hoodies, the team looked superb in their kit.

Thank you, Bay Shaping Ltd, Precision Civil, PCK, Pacific Coast Kitchens, EmbroidMe, and the whānau who helped produce these superb hoodies for our tamariki.

A huge thank you to all our whānau who managed teams, and individuals, transported, and supported our tamariki, making sure they were ready to go each day.

A special mention to Tawhai Schuster who managed and hosted our boys futsal team on and off the pitch for the duration of the day, every day.

Ngā mihi nui.
