Te Puna Wai o Waipapa / Hagley College - what our name says about whom we are.

At our May Board meeting, a motion was passed to consider renaming the school to incorporate Te Puna Wai o Waipapa, the name gifted to the school by Ngāi Tahu and to acknowledge the school’s bi-cultural identity. The motion carried by the Board is that the board pursues consultation with the school community with regard to renaming the school as ‘Te Puna Wai o Waipapa / Hagley College’ or, alternatively, ‘Te Puna Wai o Waipapa’.

We want to hear everyone's voices! It’s critical that any change is endorsed by whānau, ākonga, kaiako and the wider school community. We’d like to encourage as wide an involvement as possible and we will be in touch about next steps soon. Information about the process the Board needs to follow is attached.
