Breaking news! We have a new community inclusive movement and dance class for all ages* and abilities on offer for 2025. 2hrs per week.

*Please note in the prospectus is says for 19+ however, the class is open to any age range.

This is an inclusive and fun movement and dance option for adults who have space during the working week that want to move in an explorative and creative way with others.  Build your movement and dance confidence in a non-competitive, nurturing environment. Dance for Joy!

Practice and learn Contemporary movement, including shifting weight, suspension, release, musicality and dynamics.  Increase confidence in floor work, centre work, travelling and jumps.  You will also be guided through improvisation tasks to further develop your own movement style.

  • Gain confidence and develop skills in dance, movement, improvisation, and composition

  • Build connections and establish good relationships with fellow students while nurturing a love of movement

  • Improve and maintain body alignment, increase fitness, muscular strength, flexibility and body awareness in a fun and safe way

Utilise your skills to participate in and enjoy dance and movement in an ongoing practice.

EXITING NEW DEVELOPMENTS FOR HAGLEY DANCE PROJECT 2025

Exiting new options are also available with the Hagley Dance Project for 2025.  There is now a 4 hour or 8 hour option for those that like flexibility to study part-time.  Other advantages of the course are that it is tailored towards your dance interests and goals with technique development throughout.

Proposals will also be considered throughout the year from dancers, choreographers or creatives who are passionate about working on a specific dance project and want the opportunity to utilise their skills.

Expand your creative potential.  Explore and harness your unique abilities through dance and movement.   Develop your individual style. 

Build your movement and dance confidence in a non-competitive, nurturing environment.  Perform, choreograph, and dance in specific dance projects.

DanceNZMade Competition 2024

Year 11 and 12 dancers Briar Clark, Alydia Murray or Bel Spencer can be congratulated for representing our kura at the DanceNZMade Competition on Friday 30th August for both solos and duos.  Despite not placing as finalists, the girls performed with passion, strength and beauty with scores from 85 to 97.3/100.

The judges praised their level of skill and commitment to their routines, dynamic delivery of expression and character.  In the duet between Bel and Briar the judges commented on the great use of stage space, storytelling, connection with each other and the music.
