Hagley Theatre Company

Lisa Allan —

The year has gotten off to a brilliant start with our first season of Scene Plus.

Our new students are all settled in and are working very hard to learn the ropes and hone their craft, while our second years are delving even deeper into their studies and stepping into more leadership roles. We have two major plays that we will present this year. After Life (R15), adapted by Jack Thorne from the film by Hirokazu Koreeda, asks the question, "if you could spend eternity with just one precious memory, what would it be?" This will be the 77th and final major production directed by the company's artistic director, Cameron Mattox. It will play at the Open Stage Studios (102 Champion St) from the 9th to the 16th of June (excl Sunday) and you can grab your $20 tickets by emailing Cameron on mx@staff.hagley.school.nz

Our second major production is our physical theatre and voice teacher Rachael Schönberger's directorial debut. She has selected an Australian piece, At Sea, Staring Up (R15), written by Finegan Kruckemeyer. This will play from the 23rd of June to the 30th (excl Sunday). Emma the Greek will sail the seas alone to end a curse. Noah will search for his wife who flew off a cliff. Elise will fight the dragons snapping at her heels as she drives each night to lull her baby to sleep. Meet these characters and more in our second major season of 2023!
