Evolocity
What is happening with the Electronics and Hard Materials collaboration?
As part of the year 12 Electronics and Hard Materials collaboration students are working on making an electric vehicle to enter in the Evolocity competition on the 5th of November.
Levi Herron attended the Evolocity Arduino workshop at the School of Engineering, at Canterbury University. As well as winning the school a JCar gift voucher, Levi got to go on a tour of the electric vehicle lab that included an electric ute with insane horsepower and an electric race car. The race car had computer controlled 4 wheel drive with independent 4 wheel steering, capable of 0 to 100km/h in 1.6 seconds!
Our Evolocity team, including Danny Giffels, Levi Herron, Georgia Lohrey, Lachlan Watson, and Bob (Samuel Williams) worked hard to get our vehicle through pre-competition inspection on the 17th September at the Air NZ Academy of Learning.
Students are looking forward to having the computer labs closer to the hard materials resources next year to make it easier to work together.
Probably the best way to get our electric kart tested for safety is at the Air NZ Engineering training centre. That is what happened today. Georgia Lohrey represented the team and has brought back some info on making the kart safer.
Our kart is powered by a 350W electric motor. Pictured is a dual 1800W powered kart that is entered in a different category. Maybe next year!
