Proposed new timetable for 2025
Over the last two terms, we have been working on a review of our current timetable.
The purpose of the Timetable Review was to look closely at the timetable to see if possible changes could help student engagement and achievement. Ultimately, having students in more classes for longer (more time with teachers, and less ‘free’ time) should enable and encourage more students to be at school more regularly which, it is hoped, will lead to greater student achievement.
A large number of different options have been considered. In short, we plan to:
Stay with a 7 option line structure to provide a wide choice of subjects to students.
Have all Option lines with a 1-2-1 structure – one ‘double’ 110 minute period of learning, and 2 single 55 minute periods. Junior classes continue as single 55 minute periods.
Have Tutor time split over two days – one 20 minute slot (Mondays) and one 30 minute slot (Wednesdays).
Retain later start on Wednesday mornings, and finish slightly earlier in the afternoons to encourage participation in after-school sports. Wednesdays continue to have different timings through the day.
Note that Semesterised courses have been dropped. Year 12 students will choose 6 subjects for the year (+ Hauora 1 hr/week).
Two similar timetable structures are proposed here – one with an 8:30am start and 3pm finish, and the other the same in structure but with an 8:45am start and a 3:15pm finish.
We welcome your input on which option you prefer, and any other feedback you may have on the timetable. Have your say here.
