ACE at WAINUKU

Robyn Peterson —

We are happy to have welcomed several new learners to our Adult Community Education (ACE) evening classes this term.

Two learners, Maryna and Scott, have enjoyed themselves so much that they’ve enrolled in a second course! You’ll find them in the kitchens improving their cooking skills on Tuesdays and upskilling their English for work knowledge on Thursdays.

‘English in the Workplace’ learner, Maryna told us, "I didn't know what to expect when enrolling for this class. I thought it would be in a classroom setting. But this has a real sense of community."

On Tuesdays between 5.30-7.30pm, in the Wainuku building, we offer Cooking, Sewing, and Learner Driver Licence (Theory) classes, while on Thursdays we have English Conversation and English in the Workplace classes. These run alongside the Study Support programme, allowing parents to upskill while their children are focused on their own learning.

In Term 2 look out for our new courses. There will be three new classes, each one running for three weeks: ‘An introduction to Volunteering’, ‘CV writing and Job Search’ and ‘An Introduction to making Barista coffee’.
