Hard Materials

Colin Powick —

It has been a productive two terms for our Year 12 and 13 students in Hard Materials with stunning results.

Year 13 Level 3 Hard Materials

Given the opportunity to express her creative side has seen Makenzi Williams design and make an interchangeable mountain range scene - it can be either a tabletop or a wall hanging. Makenzi has created her mountain scene by staining the pine and cutting out a lot of mitre joints. The base of the table required a degree of accuracy to accommodate the top along with the strength required as a functional table.

Hard Materials Cape Cod chairs

From having a Mr Daydream (shown on the laser cutter) to Welsh dragons and a Stag head on the Year 12 Cape Cod chairs has given the students an opportunity to express their individuality by modifying one of the popular projects based on the BCITO programme.

Pride of place is another Cape Cod chair by Luka Parker.

"For my first time in a woodwork class, I had the opportunity to create such a nice piece of work that I am extremely proud of. A cape cod chair. I was able to express my interests through the chair by using a special laser cutter to put a picture of a snowboard on it. I am looking forward to creating even better projects like this in the new building." Luka Parker
