Tourism & Geography Trip

Sakura Smithers —

On May 11th, the Geography and Tourism Year 12 students set off to Aoraki Mount Cook. For many students, this was their first time being on a trip away and going to a national park.

The weather and atmosphere could not have been better. We were able to walk both the Sealy Tarns and the Hooker Valley, as well as experience a 3D movie at the iconic Hermitage Hotel. The students really supported one another up the 300-plus stairs and asked a lot about our natural environment. At the accommodation, students worked in groups and enjoyed cooking and playing games together. The three-day trip was an experience that I’m sure they won’t forget.

Student comments:

Last week we went on a trip to Mt Cook for Geography. We saw some incredible sights and went for some amazing walks. My highlight was playing Uno and Scattergories with everyone at Unwin Lodge Alpine club and making dinner together. I would 100% recommend going on the trip if you get the opportunity - Year 12 Geography student

I really enjoyed the trip! It was super fun, would recommend! I joined Geography for the first time this year when I moved to Christchurch, and have had heaps of fun learning about the vegetation around Mt Cook. Some highlights of the trip for me was making new friends, playing Uno for hours, making dinner with my group, doing the walk up the mountains and seeing the really pretty views and being able to Bluetooth the music the whole trip 😊 Would recommend to those wanting to try geography. - Taine, 16, Year 12
