Kathmandu Coast to Coast

Nathan Walsh —

In 2025, Te Puna Wai o Waipapa - Hagley College will enter a school team in the Kathmandu Coast to Coast for the first time.

The team consists of Year 12 students Remo Roberts and Lenny Pettitt, and Year 13 student Ngaio Dann. The team reserves are James Orr and Everton Lourenco, and the team is organised by Elizabeth Edwards.

All students have already been training hard despite some very busy schedules! Remo is the team runner and is looking forward to the 30km run through Goat Pass. "I really love these long endurance activities and I think this will be an awesome experience. I am really excited to run Goat Pass." Remo plays Ki o Rahi and Volleyball for school and his favourite subjects are PE, Outdoor Ed and Te Reo Māori.

Two-time Excellence Endorsement student Ngaio will be kayaking the 67km Waimakariri Gorge and is a keen outdoors person, too. "I surf, windsurf, hike, run and do downhill mountain biking. I have heard about the Coast to Coast my whole life and it's great that I am getting an opportunity to do this race."

Lenny Pettitt is the team cyclist and is keen to compete against others in such an iconic race. "I love the outdoors and I'm keen to improve my road cycling skills and can't wait to say I've competed in the Coast to Coast!" Lenny's favourite subjects at school are Maths and Outdoor Education and he is currently working toward his Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award.

We look forward to hearing updates from the team on how the preparation and training are going throughout the year!
