New Staff at Hagley

Jenni Holden —

We would like to extend a warm welcome to some of our new staff at Te Puna Wai o Waipapa / Hagley College.

Will Smit

Kia ora everyone! I am extremely grateful and super stoked to be able to begin my teaching career here at Te Puna Wai O Waipapa. I grew up in the Coromandel region and moved to Christchurch to complete the Bachelor of Sports Coaching and my Diploma in Teaching. You’ll find me teaching Junior Health & Physical Education, Year 11 Physical Education and ELL Physical Education. Cheers!

Dylan Pope

Kia Ora everyone. I am very excited to become a member of the Finance Team for Hagley College. Originally from Blenheim, I moved to Christchurch 5 years ago to study a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Taxation and Accounting at the University of Canterbury. I am thrilled for the opportunity to join the Hagley Whānau and I can’t wait to get involved wherever I can!

Matthew Tod-Smith

Kia Ora everyone! I became a teacher aide here at Hagley College in Term 1 after finishing university last year. I am currently working with Year 9s and have been enjoying assisting with their learning. I have loved being in the Hagley environment and am looking forward to the rest of the year!

Ivan Andrews

Kia ora everyone. I am very excited to be starting my teaching journey at Hagley and am really enjoying the opportunity of teaching Philosophy and Psychology, and follow what I find interesting. I moved to Christchurch from Wellington in 2020 to be closer to the mountains, and to enrol in teacher training at UC. I love Hagey’s emphasis on acceptance and expression, and I feel incredibly lucky to be working somewhat that values humanity so highly.

Megane Lallemant

Tena koutou! I am so grateful to be able to be a part of the lovely Hagley College whānau. I studied a Bachelor of Fine Arts majoring in Graphic Design, then a Master of Teaching and learning at UC. I am excited to be teaching Year 12 Painting, 12/13 Painting with Rebecca McLeod, 12 Art for Life and 10HG art.

Jack Wright

Kia ora everyone. I became a teacher aide for Hagley College half way through Term 1 for a Year 9 class and have enjoyed every moment. I’m also a student at the University of Canterbury, finishing off a Bachelors in Sport Management. The Hagley community has been exciting to be a part of and I’m thrilled to be here.

Alex Stuart

My name is Alex and I am originally from Alexandra. After studying in Dunedin for 4 years and a year teaching in Invercargill, I have finally made it to Christchurch! You’ll find me in the PE department teaching junior PE, health and senior health.

Stephen Doig

Kia ora, e te whānau. I feel very grateful to have joined the fantastic Teacher Aide / Learning Support team here at Te Puna Wai o Waipapa in 2022. I come from an arts / design background and possess a degree in Visual Communications. I love drawing (doing) and music (listening). My wife, Amy, and I made the move from Te Anau to Christchurch last year in order to be closer to whānau. Although new to this line of work, I'm pleased to report that I've greatly enjoyed the experience of being a Teacher Aide thus far. I feel genuinely privileged to have been afforded the opportunity to support young people with their learning / emotional development within such a kind, inclusive, and stimulating school environment.

Jo Day

I'm also working as a Teacher Aide with a Year 9 class. When not at Hagley, I love spending time with friends and family. I live in Opawa with my partner Shane, my son, Tom, who’s 10, and Meg, the cat. I love all sorts of creative activities, but my main outlet is my small skincare business.

Debbie Bishop

Kia ora, I am excited to be back at Hagley, although it's a little different being the teacher rather than the student. I am one of the Jewellery teaching duo and I teach the After 3 Object Art Jewellery class. I was a student in both classes. I left at the end of 2018 and spent my time since strengthening my skills and working as a tutor and Workshop Manager at Workspace Studios. I am enjoying sharing my knowledge and nurturing the skills of our students as they start their Jewellery journey.

Yvonne Hall

Kia Ora. Having been a Jewellery Design student at Hagley College starting in 2011, I am thrilled to be back teaching the class with fellow tutor Debbie Bishop. It is a privilege to give back to a course that I benefited so much from myself. As well as being a librarian at Sumner School, I am a passionate maker of jewellery and exhibit my work at both Form Gallery and Little River Gallery. It has been very rewarding so far seeing the students excited to learn new skills and discover the joys and challenges of making jewellery.

Becky Howie

Kia ora everyone! I have come from Riccarton High School where I have been Library Assistant for nearly five years, and am very excited to be Acting Library manager at Hagley for Terms 2 and 3 this year. As well as reading, I love music, baking and singing. I’m also a private singing coach in the evenings & weekends. Everyone at Hagley is so kind and welcoming, I feel part of the whānau already 😊
