- Bring whakapapa into the curriculum
- Push for reo Māori to be compulsory through Year 13
- Pronounce Māori names correctly
- Teach how to set achievable goals and how to reach them

- Offer more experiences in the community such as noho marae, hīkoi etc
- Integrate te reo Māori into all classes at Hagley
What would you like to see for our Māori students at this school?
- Be more active in inter-school competitions
- Bring back Māori art – whakairo (carving)
- Increase level of fluency in reo Māori
- Increase opportunities for all students
- Financial support – scholarships, well-being support
- Grow within our Māori culture with love and support
- Foster strengths of individual students
What are some things you think the kura does well for our Māori students and whānau?
- Manaakitanga
- Including whānau in kura life
- Making Te Reo classes enjoyable
- Offering baseline support for those in times of need
- Very supportive staff
- Kapa haka has improved so much! Tonight's performance was beautiful!
- Improving with multiple aspects of te ao Māori – Kapa, Ki-o-Rahi, reo Māori
- Having whānau events where we can support our ākonga
What are some things you think the kura could improve on for our Māori students?
- Giving more opportunities to a range of students
- Help our students to understand the basics of living and learning
- Improve advertisement
- Pronouncing names correctly
- More interaction, communication, engagement with whānau
- More support for the whānau rooms. They look exactly the same as 2002
- To reach out to more students to learn Te Reo and teach whānau as well
- Explain the meanings behind awards with Māori kupu
The first strategic goal in our annual plan is our commitment to building a strong sense of identity and success for ākonga Māori: "Strengthen Hagley's bicultural partnership to ensure ākonga Māori succeed as Māori", including actions and success indicators. This feedback from whānau will be a valuable source for further developing our mahi towards this goal.
