Hagley Dance Project News

Naressa Gamble —

On Friday 25th August the Dance studio was buzzing with students from Avonside, Riccarton, Ashburton, Rangiora, Te Kura and Hagley trying out a day as a Hagley Dance Project member.

It was a great way to end the week on a positive note, and an inspiring and fun day had by all. Thanks to those students from the visiting schools who gave it a go. We hope you will join us next year or in the near future. Applications are now open for 2024. Apply here: www.hagleydance.nz

Congratulations to Hagley Dance Project for their fantastic performances on Saturday 16th September at the Aurora Centre, Burnside, at the “Dancing For the Youth Hub Charity Gala”. Two pieces were performed, a group piece called “What’s The Point” choreographed by Naressa Gamble in collaboration with HDP, and Phoebe Hazard choreographed and performed a solo called “When did it end?"  which was a lovely tribute to one of her past dance teachers, Mandy Roberts, who recently passed away. Over 16 dance schools across Canterbury were involved in the show, with Hannah and Eki Espino from Garden City Dance the main organisers behind the wonderful event.

The Youth Hub is currently being built at 109 Salisbury St, in the heart of central Christchurch. It will be the first of its kind in New Zealand, creating a safe haven for young people needing support between 10-25 years of age. It’s been a tough few years for Christchurch’s young people with the earthquakes, mosque shootings and COVID-19 pandemic. The Youth Hub will provide everything young people need to improve and maintain their mental health. What a great cause to support!!
