The Korfball Team
The Korfball team competed in the Mixx Korfball South Island Secondary School Cup the weekend of 17th and 18th of September. The event was held in Pioneer Stadium.
We played in the pool games on Saturday and finals on Sunday. It was good for the team to finally play in this event after two years of it being cancelled. Last time when the team competed in 2020, we placed 3rd in the tournament.
For the Saturday pool games, we played against Papanui High School, Shirley Boys' and Avonside Girls' A team, and Rolleston College. We had two comfortable wins against Papanui High School and Rolleston College. In the game against Shirley Boys' and Avonside Girls', both teams traded goals throughout the game and we finally won by 1 point. This positioned us in the first place of the pool and gave us an advantage for the Sunday games.
For the quarter final on Sunday morning, we played against Hillmorton High School B team and secured another win. We faced St. Margaret’s and Christchurch Boys' High School for the semi-final. The result was 7-1 to us; kudos to the strong defence we played in this game. For the 1st and 2nd place final, we played against Shirley Boys' and Avonside Girls' A team again. The team made significant progress since the last time we played against them on Saturday. We realised that we needed to score a lot more points this round. Unfortunately, we did not manage to win this game and we placed second in this tournament. Despite being so close to placing first, it was still an improvement of our team’s performance. We look forward to meeting with the Shirley Boys' and Avonside Girls' team again in the Term 4 High School Competition!
