Student Achievement in 2021

Marie Stribling —

Student achievement results in 2020 were positive, despite the fact that face- to-face learning was interrupted for the period of the lockdown when Hagley College was closed for instruction from Wednesday 25th March until Tuesday 28th April, and school did not fully reopen to all students until Monday 18th May.

Given the situation which evolved, we are grateful that our e-learning leader, Nathan Walsh, had already done a great deal of work leading up to this time to ensure that teachers were familiar with using Microsoft Teams as part of blended teaching and learning. This meant that teachers were able to continue to deliver programmes of learning to students.

Our Year 11 students performed quite well, with 83 students achieving a Level 1 certificate. Achievement of a Level 2 certificate was a pleasing 11% increase on the previous year’s result with 97 students achieving a Level 2 certificate. 99 students gained a Level 3 certificate and 79 of these students also gained University Entrance. Of particular note are the 12 students who gained an Excellence endorsement in their Level 3 certificates.

Congratulations also go to Year 13 student, Caitlin Brown, who gained an Outstanding Scholar Award in Painting, an award which is made to only 40-60 students each year across New Zealand. Additionally, Finn Durning gained a Scholarship in Biology and Adult student, Justine Ottey, gained a Scholarship in Painting.

We look forward to a year without interruption to learning in 2021!
