Cross Country

Melanie Rich —

Friday 21st June saw the running of the annual school cross country. This year there was a new twist, with one of the Year 12 Sports Education classes planning and running the event.

The day dawned sunny and clear, with perfect weather running conditions, holding the promise of a good day. The promise held true, with 30 more competitors racing compared to last year, with participation up by 15%. There were many enthusiastic participants, with many senior students running, including some in fancy dress! There was also a great festival atmosphere with many parents attending, as well as a BBQ and music at the finish line.

Noah Fenwick and Mitchell Kane both ran excellent times, with Noah coming in first in the field and being the overall winner for senior boys, and Mitchell Kane coming in second overall, placing first in Year 9 boys.

The Year 12 students learnt a lot about running an event, with some good successes and several mistakes along the way, and they are looking forward to seeing a bigger and better cross country run in 2020. Special thanks must be made to all the staff and parents who came out to watch or participate on the day, contributing to the positive atmosphere of the event. Thanks also to all the staff and the Sports Council who were involved in making the event run.
