New staff

Jenni Holden —

We would like to extend a warm welcome to some of our new staff at Te Puna Wai o Waipapa / Hagley College.

Sally Hayes

Kia ora e te whānau! My name is Sally and I have just returned home to Ōtautahi Christchurch after teaching for a few years up north in Auckland – I’m stoked to be back and excited to be working here at Hagley. You can find me in the Science department teaching Science to Years 9-11, senior Chemistry, and the After 3 Science course.

Alana Whitcombe

Kia ora e te whānau! I’m the social worker for the Kāhui Ako, based primarily at Hagley College, with the fantastic team at Simpson House. My role is to support students and their whānau with any issues they need support with, including finances, housing, liaison with Government agencies, and referrals to agencies. I have worked in health and care and protection social work, and am already immensely enjoying my role here at Hagley.

Rosa Hughes-Currie

Kia ora koutou! I’ve just moved back to Ōtautahu after 6 years working in Tāmaki Makaurau at Waiōrea Western Springs College. I’m teaching Science and Physics and loving the inclusivity and diversity at this school. This year I’m a Kāhui Ako Within School Teacher, helping to support effective teaching and learning in our new open-plan learning environments, as well as culturally responsive pedagogy.

Lorcan Fivet

Kia Ora everyone. I’m a Teacher Aide at Hagley. Originally I come from Belgium but I have lived in Aotearoa for around 17 years now so I’d say I consider myself to be a kiwi. I’m loving my time at Hagley and the values/morals on which it has built its foundation from. I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of such a fantastic place and look forward to meeting more of you!

Emma Edgecombe

Hi there, my name is Emma, and I am the newest face in the Science department. It feels great to be back in the Prep room as a Science Technician. Every day is different, with tasks ranging from making up chemicals, repairing equipment and trialing practical experiments, to creating playdough and rainbow flames, as well as a good old tidy up! I enjoy the flexibility and autonomy that my role offers, and feel that the larger ethos at Hagley really fit this feeling of freedom and exploration in work and education. I feel lucky to have landed here on arriving in Christchurch, and am looking forward to stepping out of the prep room, both to explore Canterbury and to get to know some of our students. And if I get to go on some great trips, even better!

Bushra Hassan

Kia ora everyone!! I’m so excited to be part of the Hagley College team! I’m working as a bilingual teacher aide with Somali and Arabic speakers, and I’m part of the Diversity Services team. I am an English teacher and I enjoy working with communities. One of the things I noticed and liked about the school culture is the inclusiveness and diversity! It is essential for staff and students to feel safe, supported, and welcome in school. I’m looking forward to being able to contribute and watch our students' growth and success.

Lavinia Buckenham Baines

Kia ora koutou, I’m feeling lucky to be a part of the Hagley community (Hagley Park is one of my favourite places). I am from Ōtautahi and studied Psychology and Law at Canterbury University. I had a brief stint as a lawyer following this, and then moved into teaching at the intermediate level. Now I’ve made the jump to secondary school, and am lucky to be in the Social Sciences department teaching legal studies and psychology.

Rebecca Crowe

Kia ora. I started working at Te Puna Wai o Waipapa at the start of this year as the Programme Leader for the Pre-Health Course. I am an ex-Hagley student, and I’m humbled to be back in a teaching role. It’s amazing to see that Hagley has remained an all-inclusive environment that focuses on students as individuals – one of the main reason I attended Hagley for high school. I grew up in Lyttelton and studied Bachelor and Post-graduate nursing qualifications at Ara. My other role is a registered nurse at one of the hospitals in Christchurch, where I also coordinate Bachelor of Nursing and Enrolled Nursing students. While polytech students are already well into their nursing training careers, I love my role at Hagley where I hope to inspire students to continue on with their studies in healthcare.

In addition, in Term 2 Betty Henare and Tia-Raumati McIntyre-Kohinga have joined us, teaching Year 9 and 10 students Te Reo Māori.

We welcome all of our new staff to Te Puna Wai o Waipapa/Hagley College and hope you really enjoying working here.
