Level 1 ART

Lucy Holland —

On Tuesday 2nd of May the Level 1 ART classes visited Rapaki beach to be inspired by a local place of significance.

Driving out from the stormy dark clouds in the central business district, once through the Lyttleton tunnel, we were greeted by clear skies and beautiful vistas. Travelling by bus we then walked down to Rapaki beach to take photos that will inspire art works for the rest of the year.

Ākonga were given time to explore their surroundings and make sketches of the landscape. We had perfect conditions for this, and it seemed like we got the last squeeze out of the summer weather. It was awesome to see our ākonga making art outside and engaging with their environment. Some beautiful work has come out of this. Watch this space to see the Level 1 portfolios and how they have been inspired by Rapaki at the end of this year!
