Car Parking @ our Winter Wonder Wet Land

Kerstin Wagner —

Perhaps NOT so wonderful sometimes, actually! As the sun does not seem to be around enough to dry up the grounds within and around our school and kindergarten, we are starting to think ahead to the potentially even rainier winter months.

Many of you may not be aware that the Kapiti Waldorf Trust, as the property owner, has been in conversation and negotiation with KCDC for some time to find a solution. So far, no progress.

At this point, one of the things we can control is our response to a flooded car park. We wanted to give you a heads up that we will continue with the same "protocol" that we have been using when the carpark was too flooded for a safe co-existence of pedestrian and moving and stationary motor traffic.

Most likely scenario, though it cannot be set in concrete (pun intended):

  • We will open the gates for drive-through drop off only (along a marked route) in the morning.
  • We will ask that you either park at a distance and walk, or use the car park across the road. Do NOT allow young children to cross the road by themselves - if staff is not available to supervise, please accompany young children.
  • Pick up times may be staggered to reduce traffic volume.

Please note that our scholl/kindergarten is currently NOT permitted to formally create a pedestrian crossing on Poplar Ave, not even temporarily.

We rely on the understanding and kindness of all Poplar Ave users for the inconvenience this causes, and of course, the same goes for all members of our community.

The whole thing adds to the work and stress load for our already stretched staff members too, so a friendly smile and wave goes along way when you see colleagues out on duty in the rain! We'll try to keep smiling too!

And we will ALWAYS endeavour to inform you as soon as possible via email and SchoolApp.
