Office - Te Rā School —

Kia ora e ngā whānau, I’m writing this on Wednesday morning and it feels really alive today at Te Rā. From midday, the teachers will be meeting with parents in the partnership hui. Thanks to those of you who have already booked - this is a big part of how the teachers are able to connect and communicate with you as parents.

Also today, Class 3 will be performing their play to the parent community. They will show the school tomorrow. Over many years, I’ve seen how plays are a highlight for many children of their time in a Waldorf school. Plays allow the students to embody something that lives in them but may not find expression in everyday reality. They also allow exploration of the stories that the classes hear as part of their main lesson. On a learning level the students hear and use beautiful language and exercise their memories in a way that they don't get to do in many other settings - I have known many students who literally can speak an entire play by themselves!

This is an aspect of our special character that takes extra work and commitment from the teacher, and also relies on your support as parents. So, thanks to all of you who have made costumes, props and backdrops over the years. It is really appreciated! Good luck Class 3 and Katherine - kia kaha!

I hope you enjoy the partnership hui. The dynamics of teaching and learning are alive and evolving - there will always be issues and imperfections. However, conversation and co-operation are what keep us working together.

Me te kotahitanga e whai kaha ai tātau - In unity we have strength.
