Cyber Safety Parent Evening - 16 May 6.30 - 8.30pm

Kerstin Wagner —

REMINDER. This is an amazing opportunity for parents (and staff) from our kindergarten and school to hear one of the probably best speakers on this issue in our country, with eye opening information and practical advice! Paekākāriki School and Te Rā School are teaming up to invite our communities to a Cyber Safety evening, and it will be hosted at Paekākāriki School. Massive thank you to principal Julia Bevin and her team!

Love it or hate it, sooner or later all of us who raise and/or educate children have to face that fact that by the time we know that our child/student has gone astray in the internet it's too late. More often than not, we had no idea what they were able to do and we completely underestimated their ability to get around the boundaries that we assumed was had carefully constructed. Let's turn that around: let's get the info BEFORE they do, let's have our eyes wide open to what is out there AND the skills to keep our tamariki safe - safe from emotional harm, safe from self-harm, safe from all forms of harm that have their roots in a technology that is omnipresent (outside of our school gates) and that is constantly evolving to be ever more accessible. For good, and for bad.

Still undecided? Check out this clip.

Rob Cope has previously presented at Raphael House in Lower Hutt as well as at Raumati South School, and in both cases have received outstandingly positive parent AND staff feedback. Rob's presentation is as entertaining as it is challenging for the audience, as informative as it is confronting - an absolute Must-See. Armed with those recommendations I recently approached our small neighbouring school "down the road" join forces for this event and Paekākāriki's principal Julia Bevin was keen. Not only that, but thanks to a community donation her school is able to host us at no cost. All that our Paekākāriki neighbours are asking, is that our school community provides kai for supper - aka please bring a plate of fingerfood!

Please, please, please book this date in your calendar! 16 May is the Tuesday of Week 4. There is no need to RSVP to this event, but we will send a call out for willing fingerfood-makers to help us with catering.

See you there!
