KOWHAI Team Learning Update - Term 4
Kia ora families The Kowhai team has begun athletics training ready for our school event on the 8th of November. We have been practising sprints, high jump, long jump, shot put and discus. The students are moving through rotations in their PRIDE teams to strengthen the bonds between them and reinforce the values we expect at Grey Lynn School.
Fun Fridays
We begin Fun Fridays this week. Children have had the opportunity to opt into an area of interest to them: dance, STEM, pottery, painting or coding which will be held on Friday afternoons. We are looking forward to this fun learning experience which will continue until week 7. Our team assemblies will begin again after this.
Surrey Two Inquiry: During Term 4, Surrey 2 students will be working through a technology based process. Students will be designing, planning, modifying and creating a product which has a use or purpose. Students have begun by brainstorming their ideas in small groups to decide on what they may create, in accordance with a set of criteria. Once they have planned their materials your help in gathering these to bring to school will be much appreciated.
Writing: Each week teachers share a writing prompt for students to focus their writing ideas on. On alternate weeks the focus will be on a specific writing genre. During Term 4, we will be focusing on procedural and poetic writing.
Creative Publishing: Each week students have the opportunity to publish their stories in a variety of creative ways.
Mathematics: Our mathematics focus for Term 4, Week 1 - 7 is multiplication and division from Monday to Thursday and fractions on Friday. Students will continue to practise basic facts and use mathematical language to talk about their learning. Week 8 - 9 the focus will be measurement.
Reading: Teachers support their reading groups by using a wide range of texts such as School Journals, Connected (Science Journals), PM Readers and Chapter books.
MIndlab: Surrey 2 teachers are making arrangements for mindlab to workshop with our students at school. This will be a hands on experience that will correlate with our Technology Inquiry programme this term.
Seesaw: Students will begin to share their learning with their families once again during Term 4. We hope that you will enjoy commenting on their learning on seesaw.
Values: The values of our Grey Lynn Way are reinforced through our class treaty.
Williamson One
At the end of Term 3 we gathered student voice regarding our inquiry focus for Term 4. Technology was the preferred choice. To support our in class learning, we will be travelling to Mind Lab at MOTAT on Monday week 5, November the 11th.
The reading strategies we are focusing on are questioning and visualising. For writing we will be beginning with instructional/procedural moving into narratives before the end of the term. As usual we will be mixing up the learning focus within our literacy programme to meet different purposes and needs that arise.
Our maths focus is multiplication, division and fractions. We will also be developing our maths extension programme and supporting children to understand their next steps. We will be incorporating social skills lessons to develop our PRIDE values.
