Michael Beran

I’ve lived in Grey Lynn for over twenty years and I’m a script writer for film and television. In my other lives I have been an English and Media Studies teacher and a television journalist. My daughter Olive is in Year 6 and I have been on the Board of Trustees since 2017. I feel we are so lucky to have an amazing network of teacher/parent/caregiver support who care deeply about our kids and their learning.

Grey Lynn School has been a big part of my life since my eldest child started school in 2010. Since then my two other children joined Grey Lynn School and I currently have Sam in Year 5. I have always loved the history, heart and diversity of our school. After spending many years helping in a fundraising capacity I had the privilege of joining the board in 2016. Since becoming Chair at the end of 2017 I've led our board through our 2018 ERO Review and the drafting of our 2019-2021 Strategic Plan - both of these being very positive experiences collaborating with our board and Senior Leadership Team. As Chair I ensure our board stays focused on our most important responsibility which is student achievement. I particularly enjoy learning about our children's progress and achievement and the special relationship our Board has with our wonderful Senior Leadership Team. My background is in law, specialising in Commercial Property, which has aided in my role on our Building Project Team. I love to spend time with my family, being outdoors, watching my children's sports, photography and being at the beach.

My wife Tanya and I have lived in Grey Lynn for over seven years and we love this community. As a father of three boys at Grey Lynn School, I feel privileged to be a member of the board as the school transitions into this exciting and innovative new phase. With a background in finance and strategy, I believe that a quality education is a key component to a positive future and I have a strong desire to see children succeed. I look forward to making a positive contribution to the school.
