Grey Lynn School —

Kia ora families

Surrey Two:

Inquiry

Thank you to all parents who have helped to support students learning during our technology investigation. The children will be sharing their slide shows with you on the celebration day.

Children will begin kitchen science experiments in week 8 and 9.

Writing

Each week teachers have been sharing a writing prompt for students to focus their writing ideas on. Our focus has been procedural writing and we will begin poetic writing in week 8 and 9.

Mathematics

Children will finish working on multiplication and division next week. We will begin measurement Week 8 and continue with fractions.

Reading

Teachers continue to support their reading groups by using a wide range of texts such as School Journals, Connected (Science Journals), PM Readers and Chapter books.

Seesaw

Students have been sharing their learning on Seesaw and we hope that you enjoy commenting on their learning.

Values

The values of our Grey Lynn Way are reinforced through our class treaty. We filled our PRIDE jars in Surrey 2 last week and children celebrated by having a swim and ice block after.

STEM Cell Motat

Abby and Katherine visited Surrey students this Tuesday and children participated in robotic workshops.

Williamson One:

In Williamson One we are full steam ahead with our Science and Technology challenges. We have been learning about simple leavers while building catapults, and got the chance to share these with our buddy class - Room 6.

While working through the technological design process building our marble runs, we will be learning about force and motion. We will be sharing these with you once complete, and working on a timetable for our construction sessions which we will update you on. If you’d like to come in and be an assistant to our designers, we’d love to have you!

Our literacy focus is moving towards storytelling. As we look at the features that make a story entertaining to the reader and how we might use these ideas in our writing. Fractions, multiplication and division are our key aspects of maths. We are working on developing our problem solving and helping our learners gain an understanding of where they are and what their next steps are.

It will be a jam packed end to Term 4 as we wrap up all the learning and fun in Williamson One.
