Panui - Week 8 - Kia Ora, Talofa, Kia orana, Malo e lelei , Greetings

Toni Jarmin —

Our Year 6 students returned from an active week of adventure and challenges with smiles a mile wide and a sense of achievement. It was wonderful to hear how our students were responsible and open to taking risks and being resilient.  I wish to thank our awesome staff and wonderful camp parents. We so appreciate you giving up your time from work and family commitments. Together you all provided a valuable experience that our students will remember in a positive way for years to come!

The Year 5 students were also busy and showed resilience as they participated in a week of EOTC programmes,  including team problem solving, high ropes confidence activities, kayaking, cooking, sewing and carpentry . Sincere thanks to all the parents who supported the staff and children.

GLS Values  - Our behaviour focus for the rest of the term comes under our value of Respect. The children are learning to demonstrate the  value of respect by encouraging each other and looking after each other. Teachers will be brainstorming with the children , what language and actions we will see when we are being encouraging and looking after each other. which encourages self-responsibility.

One Can , Two Can -Supporting  Auckland City Mission: the collection boxes in the office are filling fast. We will be collecting canned and non-perishable food items during the week.

This Friday Wacky Wardrobe:  We look foward to seeing lots of  wacky wardrobe creations on Friday 23rd June.  Gold coin donation with all proceeds going to this cause.

Grandparents /Celebration of Learning 30 June : Our annual Grandparents Day is coming soon and is a really special day for children. Families without grandparents are encouraged to invite other family members or friends to come along and if this is not possible immediate family are very welcome to attend.

Car Parking  Chaos -Community Complaint : We have had a complaint from the Surrey Crescent Medical Centre about parents parking in their staff car park (28 Surrey Crescent in the driveway at the old Triangle TV business next to the Pensioner flats).  This is a parking area for staff at  the Medical Centre, including doctors and nurses who need to pull into their park quickly. It is not a public parking area and offenders will be towed.

Interviews are coming up for our Year 4-6 students next term. We see these interviews as a valuable part of learning. Watch out for further information .

We wish our Y5/6 league team good luck for the Inner City Tournament next week . Go you good things!

Kind regards,
Toni Jarmin, Acting Principal
