Swimming Pool Use After School
As the temperatures rise so to is our need to cool off and at Grey Lynn School we’re so lucky we still have a school pool.
As you know many school pools around the country have closed or been filled in. The Ministry doesn’t fund them anymore so maintenance has to come out the school budget.
Shortly your children will be begin regular swimming classroom lessons.
We want to make further use of our wonderful asset after the school day as well. We are proposing to open the pool two days a week just after 3pm for an hour. Exact days and dates will be confirmed shortly.
This is a great chance for the kids to cool off, increase their confidence in the water, as well a chance for parents/caregivers to get to know each other.
The responsibility of the pool after hours lies with the Board of Trustees not the Principal. In order for this to work we need parental help and then we can set up a roster. This will be a free activity.
Safety of the children is paramount so we have to be very clear on what this after school activity is and isn’t.
This is not a drop and run activity. Your child is your responsibility. There will be two adults actively supervising, but your child is your responsibility.
To keep everyone safe we have to limit the number of kids to 40 in the pool at any one time. We have to be very strict about this.
I’d love to hear from any parents/caregivers that could offer to help.
Attached are guidelines and rules for pool use.
