Learning associated with our new build

Grey Lynn School —

The Year 5/6 team have been watching our new building very closely and as the completion date comes closer, so does the reality that we are going to be moving in there and doing our collaborative learning without walls! How exciting!

In order to address the wondering that the students had we went on a tour. We looked at the building from Level 2 of the DS block and then recorded our wonderings. From our wonderings, the teachers did some specific teaching about learning zones and what types of areas we would like to have. The next step was up to the design architects - the learners themselves! The classes worked together to design their ultimate floor plan and learning zones and we will present those to the SLT once finished.

Next term the Year 5/6 team will be learning about learning zones and why they are beneficial to learners. They will also be looking at how th brain works and what things help and hinder the learning brain - i.e. brainfood, quiet zones, sensory zones etc.

These are exciting times and we cannot wait to create our new learning zones together!
