GLS Softball - A Team Summary by Jake Rm 18

Yesterday, we had the annual Inner City softball competition.

We had a really tough pool. In our pool, we had Bayfield Primary, St Francis Primary, Pt Chev Primary and Richmond Road Primary.

In our first game, we played Bayfield. We were up 8 - 5 until, in the last minute they got 3 runs. We drew in the end. After that, we played Richmond Road Primary. Uala was coaching their Team!

We got off to a bit of a slow start, but got better and better, in the end we won 10 - 3. That was a really fun game! We then changed pitches to play St Francis Primary. They got quite a quick lead but then we had a great batting inning. We caught up to 6-5 but then the hooter went. It was a great game!

Our last game for 5th and 6th against Pt Chev was so much fun, we also had a great batting inning in this one because in the end, we beat Pt Chev 12-5. So, that means, in the end we got 5th! It was such a close pool that if we had scored 1 more run against either Bayfield or St Francis, we would’ve got into the finals!

A massive thanks to John, our amazing coach, for doing practices after school. He did practices for about a month on Wednesdays. He is a really supportive coach. And also Nicola, who organised it all and stayed with us for the whole day! It was such a fun day, and our team played with GLS pride Values. Our team played some really great softball.

GLS Softball - B Team Summary by William Rm 17

On Thursday 4th April 2019 a team of thirteen players, 2-3 coaches and all the parent transport went down to Cox's Bay to represent Grey Lynn School in the Inner City Softball competition. The day was a blast for every one. These are some of the team members opinions:

“It was a fun time to enjoy the sport and play with new teams that were a challenge but overall it was a enjoyable time”

”It was really fun because we got to play other schools and even got to see some people that we knew. But sometimes it was unfair because we did not get to finish stuff”

”It was hot, it took a lot of effort and teamwork and was really fun”

”It was so fun when we were versing teams, we never felt more alive in sports and it was exhilarating”.

We had a lot of fun and that got us fourth place. This could not have been possible without Caleb, Anthony and all the parent transport. Big thank you from the B team.
