Principal's Update

GLS —

We hope that the long weekend was a refreshing one for you and your families.

Professional Learning: Assessment, Reporting and our GLS Learner Profile

On Friday our staff had the opportunity to collaborate in-depth together, on the development of our curriculum and learning design. We had professional learning about reporting learning to families and our Assessment for Learning practices. We reviewed and finalised our GLS Learner profile (our learner capabilities) which we want ALL our learners to have by the time that they leave GLS as a Year 6 student. We will be sharing this with you shortly for your ideas and feedback.

Kia ora Filo Fale

Our school grounds are looking wonderful and our students appreciate the re-opening of our field. I would like to take the opportunity to acknowledge Filo Fale; our Property Manager for his efforts around our school as we near the final completion of the defects process of our build.

A chance for a community Working Bee

There are some key projects we need your help with this term. We would like to hold a working bee in our school grounds. The working bee may include:

  • The creation of mulched areas between our pool and playground. This is a prized hut building area that needs refreshment and planting.

  • A tidy up of the fence line between our playground and Surrey Crescent boundary fence

  • Creation of our ‘Garden to Table’ planting beds beside the pool and sand play area

  • Tidy up of our beloved native forest

  • We also need a contact for mulch, some grasses and small plants and paint

If you would like to be part of the team who ORGANISES the GLS Working Bee please register here: Register to be part of the Working Bee Organising Team

Achieving Excellence in Oral Language

Last night the Auckland grand final was held for our Rehu Tai Oral Language Festival. These are the students who were winners of each area of Auckland. Annabelle Hegan and Niko Guttenbiel represented our school and our Inner City Cluster. They both were sensational and we are very proud as were their whanau. Congratulations! Thank you to our staff who came along to support them both.

Achieving Excellence in Sport

Recently we have participated in Totara hockey and last week our cluster basketball tournament. GLS had the most teams registered at this event of all schools and all I could see was a sea of maroon at the tournament! The students ranged from beginner players to seasoned GLS players. All playing with a team spirit and a smile. We celebrate all those who participated and our A grade Basketball Team who won their section! Thanks to the parents who coached and transported our students and to Shane Hunt for his organisation to make the event successful.

Collaboration| Mahi Tahi

Thank you to our staff for working together for the good of our learners and our school. Your work is noticed and much appreciated. To our community; we look forward to creating more opportunities for your ideas and support in our school; through learning and curriculum and our place and space.
