Kiwi New Entrant Nest

Paul Tyson —

New Entrant tamariki can move out the Kiwi nest after a short period of school

Due to considerable growth in the area, we experience many new enrolments each term. Despite this, we want New Entrant tamariki to be set up for success when transitioning to a new school setting.

Through experience, we have identified that the Kiwi Nest approach is the best way to support new enrolments through this transition phase. This means, unless stated otherwise, your child will be taught by Ann Gain for a period of time in the nest when they first start school. When numbers grow, tamariki who are ready will be transitioned out of the nest to a new teacher. If enrolment numbers are high, this could occur within ten weeks. In years where we have a large number of enrolments coming at once, we could run two Kiwi Nests with another teacher to ensure students get at least ten weeks in the Kiwi Nest.

If your child is not quite ready to leave the Kiwi Nest, Ann may suggest keeping them for a little bit longer or may transition across to the new teacher slowly. The new teacher will have established a relationship with tamariki to support this transition.
