Mihi Whakatau - Friday 23rd February
This year, as part of our strategic direction and commitment to fostering and building strong relationships and instilling a sense of belonging, we would like to formally welcome new tamariki and their whānau at a special whole school event - Mihi Whakatau (to settle).
We have consulted with our whānau (families), kaiako (teachers) and Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu (the governance entity of Ngāi Tahu) to ensure we are following appropriate tikanga (protocol).
A Mihi Whakatau is a welcome for our new families or Manuhiri (guests) so they become part of Te Rito Harakeke - Marshland School’s whānau (our wider family). It is traditionally used for welcoming, introductions and openings which take place away from the marae. It is a tradition we wish to establish as part of how we will welcome whānau (families) in the future.
All tamariki (children) and kaiako (teachers) who have joined Te Rito Harakeke - Marshland School this year (2024) will have an invitation outlining the process for the morning.
Who: Tamariki, Kaiako (and their whānau) who have joined Marshland in 2024
When: Friday 21st February
Time: 9:15am - 10:00am
Where: Whānau to meet in the school staffroom at 9:00am with Riki Culley (Deputy Principal) and Jess Bond (Culture and Partnerships Strategic Lead) for a debrief.
