Creative Writing - Kiwi (Year 0-1)

Christy Bealing —

Kiwi Hub have been exploring various ways of being creative with their writing. Kiwi Gain and Kiwi Brooks have been using their big book of the week as inspiration for their writing. Tamariki have been learning to locate words within a text to use in their writing. They loved using the big book Lavalava to help them design their own lavalava and then write about their design. T-shirts was another favourite story allowing tamariki to harness their imagination and put this down on paper.

Kiwi Bealing and Kiwi Roberts’ focus has been on using adjectives in their writing, incorporating lots of describing words to make their writing more interesting for the reader. They have been exploring their five senses with a focus on the beach which has inspired lots of creative writing. Tamariki have also enjoyed used picture prompts to inspire creative thinking and provide opportunities to use adjectives.

Kiwi Brown, Kiwi Jackson and Kiwi Ngatai tamariki have been taking care of a screaming pickle which has been a very engaging topic for Writing. They have had challenges to complete which included writing descriptions about their new wee friend. They also created their own story using a pickle image and dipped their toes back into instruction writing where they have written steps about how to make their own pickles.
