Principal's Message
Time to celebrate and share student learning at Marshland School - Te Rito Harakeke
Kia ora e te whānau
It is incredible how quickly we are approaching the term's end. While we know there has been some disruption for some of you during the first half of the term with Winter illness, Covid-19 continuing to spread, and teacher industrial action, our teaching and learning programmes have maintained the same intensity and focus on learning progress.
We look forward to sharing some of this learning with you all at the Learning Celebration scheduled for Thursday, 29th June. This will be an excellent opportunity for tamariki to share their understanding and learning experiences related to the Term 2 concept focus of Communication and Expression in the Performing Arts.
A schedule of Learning Celebrations for each learning hub on Thursday, 29th June, will be published in a separate article early next week.
School Reports will also be updated and published on Friday, 16th June. As you may recall, we changed our progress and reporting structure for the 2023 school year. You can view these changes by following the word LINK.
This term, you will receive a written comment on Writing and Maths. In addition, achievement and progress graphs will be updated for all tamariki, other than New Entrant tamariki who have started school this term.
Another opportunity to celebrate student learning is through our Intermediate Years community engagement event from 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm on Thursday, 22nd June, for all Year 6 and 7 tamariki, parents and whānau. In addition to the Intermediate Years evening event, we offer an opportunity for parents and whānau of Year 6 and 7 tamariki to attend an open day on Monday, 19th June, from 9:30 am. In addition, parents and whānau will be provided with the opportunity to register for a guided tour through the Toroa Learning Hub while students are engaged in teaching and learning programmes. Further information about Intermediate Years engagement opportunities will be provided to all Year 6 and 7 parents and whānau soon.
Regarding the Intermediate Years at Marshland School - Te Rito Harakeke, we are also reviewing our student leadership structure for Year 7 and 8 tamariki for the 2024 school year. In doing this, we sought feedback from all Year 5-8 parent and whānau. Our goal is to provide more defined and visible student leadership roles for senior tamariki, supporting the diverse interests, strengths and leadership potential of our tamariki. We look forward to publishing these changes at the Intermediate Years community engagement event and sharing these with you all by the end of Term 2.
As you can see, a lot of energy is going into celebrating and sharing learning with you this term. We know you have commitments and may not be unable to attend some of these different events. Please feel assured that your tamariki will still benefit from sharing their learning with others, even if you cannot attend.
You are always welcome to come into Learning Hubs at any stage throughout the term to see what your tamariki have been learning and talk to their Homebase teachers.
We hope you have a wonderful long weekend.
