Pūrākau and Tūrangawaewae - Korimako (Yr 5 - 6)
Tamariki in Korimako have been learning about Pūrākau (Māori legends) and how Māori use these to connect to the land.
In Korimako, ākonga have been divided into tribes for inquiry. In these tribes, tamariki are taking part in experiences investigating māori connection to the land and the environment. Following these learning experiences, students are using what they have learned to compete in tribal competitions where they must use what they have learned and demonstrate ngātahi to win points.
In the first four weeks, tamariki have created shelters in their tribes based on their tribal turangawaewae (sense of identity and connection to land) and read pūrākau from which they will create their own legend about how their tribe and their tribes land was created.
There are many more exciting learning experiences coming up in the second half of the term where students will be further investigating Māori connection to the land.
