Bring Your Own Chromebook
Marshland School seamlessly and meaningfully integrates the use of ICT across the curriculum on a regular basis. We have successfully operated a BYOD policy since 2013.
Students who own a device will typically invest more time into customising the device to optimise productivity, resulting in a more proficient operator. This allows us as a school to bridge both formal and informal learning.
Our Year 4–8 students are welcome to bring their device as soon as they and their parents have read through and signed our Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) forms.
Today’s world provides students with unlimited access to a digital culture both locally and internationally. To participate fully, ethically and safely in this world, our students must stand up and exercise their rights and responsibilities as digital citizens. Our school is committed to ensuring students to become digital citizens.
Teachers teach students about being digital citizens through a range of learning programmes. Then throughout the year, students in Years 5 – 8 learn about and practise positive digital citizenship and safety. Student online history is closely monitored by teachers and our IT administrator.
A digital citizen will be challenged to make sensible online choices, including those about the security systems in place and the pathway they choose to take with their digital device.
We have strict systems in place to filter internet searches. However, educating our students to access and use devices correctly through informed decision-making will protect them even further. With the support of families, our students will feel comfortable discussing the issues that arise from being part of a highly connected world.
We also have advanced software that reports breaches and sends an alert to teachers if students access any inappropriate sites. The consequences of these breaches are consistent with our behaviour policy and procedures.
