Korimako Knitters

Rebecca Teague —

Our knitting club have been focused on contributing squares to make a woollen blanket for Operation Cover Up...we are on our way!

The group of 14 dedicated knitters and volunteers have been lovingly creating their peggy squares each Tuesday throughout Term 2 and 3.

So far, Pippa has completed one square (40 stitches, 80 rows) and is onto her second! Sophia is casting off her first and is so proud of her efforts.

The tamariki have been lucky enough to have had help from our wonderful volunteers; Maureen, Ann, Bronnie, Yvonne, Georgie and Faye who are either parents or grandparents of students at Te Rito Harakeke, Marshland School.

"It has been such a pleasure to see the next generation learn a skill and I find it really rewarding each week to see the progress," Maureen shared.

The 'peggy squares' will be knitted or crocheted into a warm woollen blanket which will be sent to Eastern Europe as part of Operation Cover Up 2024.

"I really like knitting and it's relaxing. I've enjoyed learning how to knit and I'm thankful to Yvonne for teaching me," added Brydie.

"Knitting is really fun and it keeps you calm and focussed.  Every time you feel sad, you can just knit.  I'm really focussed on finishing mine," said Josefa.

We are so proud of the efforts of these tamariki to take the time each week to learn a skill, practise it and create something to share with those in great need.  Marshland MANA in action!
