Super Statistical Investigations - Tūī Rata (Yr 3-4)

Melanie Roberts —

Tūī Rata students have been collecting and sorting data as evidence to tell a story about a question of interest.

Students began with discovering ways to group things - from which Marshland School house they were in, to languages spoken at home, to Dragonistics Data Cards (cards representing a unique dragon containing multivariant data) From there we discussed how could we display that information for others to see and interpret. Students looked at different types of graphs such as Bar Graphs and Picture Graphs, and how to read what they were telling us.

Our next step was for students to create their own question and survey their peers. With the data collected the Rata learners then chose which type of graph they would display the results. The students enjoyed finding out information about each other to share.
