Maia Smith —

Another busy fortnight for Marshland Sport. Students have been involved in Netball, Hockey, Football and Ki o Rahi tournaments at Nunweek, Hagley and Wainoni Park.

On Thursday and Friday of week 7 our year 5/6 and year 7/8 students had the chance to participate in a local Ki o Rahi tournament. We had over 100 students involved in this 'have a go' tournament. The tournament was judged on how well teams displayed three values, Manaakitanga, Kotahitanga and Rangatiratanga. One of our year 5/6 teams came home with the Manakitanga trophy for showing great respect.

In week 8 we had the Canterbury Primary School Winter Tournament. This tournament occurred at Hagley Park and Nunweek Park. For them to qualify they need to have competed in the Zones Tournament and secure a spot. This year our year 7/8 Netball, Football and Hockey teams as well as our year 5/6 Netball team represented us.

It was a beautiful day with some incredible sport played. Our Year 7/8 Netball team backed up their year 6 success as well as their basketball success and came 1st! They played so well and were very lucky to be supported by Alison and Jo.

The Football team played some tight, fast paced matches and came home with a 5th place. There was lots of fancy footwork and great team work on the pitch which helped them finish up 5th. Thank you to Donna and Shannon for stepping in with the coaching.

Our year 5/6 netball team had an amazing day and kept blowing us away with their skill and talent. Finishing up 7th overall is something they should be incredibly proud of! Thank you to Kelleigh and Katie for helping with he coaching and refereeing.

Finally, our hockey team had a great day at Nunweek and played their absolute hardest. Thanks Kellen for assisting with the team.
