Toroa Camp - Waipara Adventure Centre

Carolyn Davies —

A fun-filled experience that focused on collaboration, communication and cooperation skills, developed confidence and encouraged students to challenge themselves.

We had an amazing time at the Waipara Adventure Centre. The students did activities including, tree climbing (17m!), the Flying Kiwi, air rifle shooting,  the vertical playpen, team building, and confidence course and abseiling. They also got to play on the flying fox and the awesome water slide.

These outdoor activities are designed so that the students have to develop teamwork skills, and really communicate with their groups. It was particularly great to see new friendships form and increased confidence in the Toroa students.

We were so lucky with the weather and had an absolutely beautiful 2 days in the Waipara Valley. Camp is a great way to get to know the children better. We really see how supportive they are and who the natural leaders are.  It is wonderful to see so many students coming out of their shell and giving things a go.

A massive thank you to the parents who came along to help out. These parents do not just supervise, they encourage, support and develop a great connection with the kids during the activities.  We could not go on these trips without them, and we really appreciate their time and effort.
