Cool Days at Marshland!

Kia ora whānau

What fantastic weather we have had lately! Feedback from our staff and children during this hot weather period about Hub temperatures has been very positive. They have been kept cool and comfortable in a great working environment. We can look forward to, rather than dread those hot blustery nor westers! My thanks to the Ministry of Education for finally recognising this, and resourcing these cooling/heating units at great expense.

Last week was busy with Athletics and a pleasing 60 of our tamariki will go to the  Zones Athletics at Rāwhiti Domain next Tuesday with qualifiers progressing to the Canterburies! Thank you to all the parents who helped or attended on the day.

On Tuesday night our Choir performed in the annual Kids for Kids Show fronted by iconic Kiwi entertainer Jackie Clarke and musician Nathan King. The show was packed with 100% Kiwi loved songs. This year’s Kids for Kids is all about celebrating Aotearoa’s ‘Big Aroha’, seeing young people come together to celebrate some of the best of Kiwi music and participate in a mass choir performance. The children performed beautifully, with star performer of the show our very own Monet S who wowed the audience with her vocals and stage presence! A great night was had by all. Thanks to Bex Osborn for preparing the choir to perform so capably.

Hub Organisation for 2020

As is the norm for Marshland Te Rito Harakeke, we have uneven numbers at each year level. The following organisation will keep the year groups together - which we believe is good for friendship groups and programmes of work.

Pukeko Hub: Year 2 and 3

Paula Calvert, (TL) Matthew Boyce, Kellie Sim, Sam Jones, Terry van der Schaaf, Teacher Aide: Jill Epps (Sam, Terry and Paula are experienced Year 3 teachers).

Tui Hub: Year 4

Jean Pearce (TL), Sonya Bell, Teacher Aide: Sue Washbourne

Korimako Hub: Year 5 and 6

Jo Atkinson (TL), Taryn Woodham (Co-leader for the year), Maia Smith, Preston Bell, Dave Sutherland, Mel Roberts. Teacher Aide: Karen Watts

Toroa Hub: Year 7 and 8

Carolyn Davies (TL), Bex Osborn (Full time), Mason Shaw, Kellen Gillstrom, Teacher Aide Caitlin Mummery

Homegroup teacher information will come out in the last week of term, however, depending on your child's learning needs, may not be the Literacy and Mathematics teacher, and is often more for reporting and wellbeing purposes.

Just a reminder about the Board of Trustees amended policy about Dogs on the School Grounds. The full document is attached.

Marshland School recognises that dogs are an important part of life for many Marshland School families and are often included in activities such as walking children to and from school. The school appreciates this inclusion and values the place the dog has within a family.

It also acknowledges however that some children and people can find contact with dogs stressful, and even frightening.

Parents who bring dogs on to school grounds do so on the understanding that their dog has no issues around children, does not suffer from anxiety, has never displayed any aggression towards children, and that the owner believes the dog is fully trustworthy in a school environment.

Given that dogs make some children anxious, please don't bring your dog inside Hubs unless invited by a teacher for educational purposes.

Enjoy your weekend!

Kind regards,

Jacqui
